1. What is the cancellation policy for Dunk Island ferry and tour tickets?

  • Standard Fares: Fully refundable if cancelled more than 24 hours before departure. Within 24 hours, non-refundable but changeable with a $25 admin fee.

  • Saver Fares: Cheapest tickets, must be booked 72 hours in advance. Changeable up until 24 hours prior with $25 fee. Within 24 hours, all sales are final.

  • Tickets are valid for 365 days and are not transferable.

2. What happens if Dunk Island Reef Adventures my cruise is delayed or cancelled

If services are delayed due to weather, technical or operational reasons;
You will be re-booked on the next available cruise at no additional charge.
If delayed for more than 2 hours, you may request a full refund for the service.

If services are cancelled due to weather, technical or operational reasons;
You will be re-booked on the next available cruise at no additional charge or offered a full refund.

Refund and Remedies are also available under Australia Consumer Law.

3. What happens if I choose not to travel, but the Cruise is still operating?

If you choose to cancel due to weather conditions and wish to travel on a different day you will be offered the first available equivalent cruise and have to pay a AU$25 amendment fee per person.

If you choose to cancel due to weather conditions and not travel on an alternate day, normal cancellation conditions apply.

4. Do I need travel insurance for Dunk Island tours?

Yes, we strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance to cover voluntary cancellations, medical conditions, or unforeseen events.

5. Are there extra fees like reef levies or surcharges?

Yes. A Reef Levy of $20 per person applies, payable on boarding in Cairns or Mission Beach.
This includes:

  • $8.00 Environmental Management Charge

  • $3.83 Port Fee

  • $8.17 Admin Fee

6. What is the luggage allowance on QuickCoast ferries?

  • Hand baggage: Clothing, books, electronics, passports, jewellery, etc. (carried at your own risk – no liability for loss/damage).

  • Checked baggage & cargo: Suitcases, trekking backpacks, eskys (must meet size/weight restrictions – details on request).

  • Trolleys: Max width 50cm. Oversized trolleys will not be accepted.

  • Large cargo: By prior application only.

  • Dangerous goods (explosives, corrosives, flammables) are strictly prohibited.

7. Can I bring pets onboard?

  • General pets are not allowed.

  • Certified assistance animals are permitted with 72 hours’ prior written request by emailing [email protected].

8. Can I smoke or bring alcohol onboard?

  • No smoking anywhere on the vessel, including toilets and decks.

  • Alcohol may only be consumed if purchased onboard. BYO alcohol is not permitted.

9. What ID do I need to board the Dunk Island ferry?

All passengers must carry a valid government-issued photo ID. Boarding may be refused without it.

10. Do you offer local discounts?

Yes. Locals Discounts must be booked at least 72 hours in advance and are subject to the same cancellation/change fees as Saver Fares.

11. What if I miss my ferry or arrive late?

Boarding closes 10 minutes prior to departure. Passengers who miss boarding are not entitled to refunds. Please arrive early.

12. Is Dunk Island accessible for passengers with disabilities?

  • Some jetties, including Dunk Island Jetty at certain tides, are not fully accessible.

  • Please email us in advance for assistance with accessible jetties, embarkation, and safety requirements.

13. Are activities like walking, swimming, and snorkelling included?

Yes – but these are self-guided and undertaken at your own risk.
Please inform crew of any medical conditions before participating.

14. What happens if my itinerary changes?

  • Itineraries may change due to weather, safety, or operational reasons.

  • If changed within our control, you may accept the new itinerary, rebook, or cancel for a refund.

  • If changed outside our control (e.g. storms, maritime law), we will provide an alternative itinerary but no compensation is offered for unused services unless required by law.
